3 Books to Read on a Cozy Winter Day

As winter is upon us, so are the holidays! That means you get more time to lay in bed wrapped up in your fluffy blanket and do nothing. Maybe you could put on a show or you could just pick up a book to read. There’s nothing more satisfying than laying on your bed with a cup of warm cocoa and a lovely book in your hand.

But, which book do you read? You need the perfect book so that you can thoroughly enjoy your winter holidays. And this brings us to the point of this article.

We have made a list of some of the best books you can read while cuddled up in bed. The best part about books is that you can find an e-book and an audiobook for almost every book out there. All you need to do is find a good and secure internet connection through which you can purchase the books and not have the risk of your card details getting out.

One of these secure internet connections is TDS Internet. You can click on this link to check out its security measures and prices.

With that out of the way, let’s take a look at the books.

The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey

Set in Alaska in the 1920s, the story tells the tale of a couple, Jack and Mabel, and their encounter with Faina. Jack and Mabel have recently moved to Alaska and they are not in the best of shape. Jack’s work at the farm is taking a toll on him, and Mabel is terribly lonely at home. Both of them yearn for a child but do not have one.

On one snowy day, the couple goes out and they make a child out of the snow, almost like a snowman. The next day, the snow child is gone, but somebody else turns up at their doorstep, a little girl named Faina, who is a child of the woods, and hunts with a red fox on her side.

How the girl has survived for this long or where she came from, the couple does not know. For all they know, she seems like a girl that has popped out of the pages of a fairytale. Nevertheless, they still grow to love her as their own daughter. Soon enough, they come to learn that things aren’t as simple as they seem. They come to learn something about Faina that will change their lives forever.

Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher

In this book, Rosamunde Pilcher takes us through the lives of five different people that come together in a large, neglected estate house located near the Scottish fishing town of Creagan. Elfrida Phipps is the first of the five people and she belonged to the London stage. She moves to the English village of Dibton to make a new life for herself.

Slowly but surely, she settles into the familiar village life with her neighbors calling her by name and the local shopkeepers knowing her tastes. Oscar Blundell, the second of the five, was a musician who gave up his career to marry Gloria.

The third character, Carrie, has just returned from Austria to her mother and aunt after her ill-fated affair with a married man. As Christmas is coming closer, Carrie takes it upon herself to look after Lucy, her cousin, due to some unexpected circumstances. Lucy is the fourth person in the story. And the fifth person, Sam Howard, is recovering from heartbreak after his wife left him for someone else.

Due to a business trip, he comes to northern Scotland and falls in love with the landscape. These five characters are brought together by fate and it seems that their lives will change forever with this encounter.

Disappearing Earth by Julia Phillips

This novel is one of Julia Phillips’ best works and for good reason too! The story begins with the disappearance of two girls one August afternoon on the shoreline of the northeastern edge of Russia. As the investigation begins, it seems to go on and on without any results and the days turn into weeks and then into months. As the news makes its way to the tightly-woven community, it causes fear and sadness, especially among women.

Family, friends, law enforcement, and the people of the community all learn to cope with the loss of the two sisters. However, the story is yet to end, and as things go on, the reader is taken on a journey through a place that is as haunting as it is beautiful. The writer has shown us a Russia that no one has ever seen before and this is one of the reasons it is such a gripping read!

The Final Words

With that, we bring this article to an end. We hope you will get your hands on these novels as soon as possible! Be sure to grab some snacks and clear your schedule so you won’t be interrupted and enjoy the stories in peace!
