In addition to smaller grouper, Cross, and his friends who frequently fish the pier known as the Skyway Misfits Crew, enjoy playing tug of war with the bigger Goliath that now frequent the pier. He makes 400-pound wire leaders that are 10-feet long, giving the abrasiveness needed against massive sharks like bulls and hammerheads they target.
On a recent night, Cross’s friend Jake Covington borrowed one of his leaders, but found himself tangled up to another one of the bridge’s Goliath. Cross, who was working at the time, closed up the bait shop and went to assist the release of the massive goliathgrouper.
“We have a rope that we used to pull in big sharks up to 400 pounds on the bridge to release them. In a scene that looked like it was from the movie “Mission: Impossible,” Cross dangles from the rope around his waist with pliers in hand.
The fish kicks away, and Cross is pulled back to the bridge. I knew with that long heavy leader it probably would have gotten tangled up in the structure and died.
Normally, we don’t use that tackle on Goliath so it presented the problem when it ate the shark bait.” When targeting Goliath, Cross uses a 900H Diana on a broomstick-esque rod allowing him to winch them up.
He pinches the barb down on those hooks, allowing an easier release on the Goliath he’s landed up to 300 pounds. Beast in the Gulf So this is part two of the Summer Backcountry Fishing trip I had a few weeks ago.
This is not your regular fishing...this can be dangerous and will punish your tackle, gear and your body. Let’s start with Power ...20..... Strength 20.... Ferociousness 20... Hunger 20.... Stamina...20... Intelligence...8.ok they are not that smart but their brute force makes up for the brain department.
So you get my idea these fish do not mess around and you need to be physically and mentally ready for what you get into. I am using a Penn International 16VS 2 speed on a St Croix 6’” 6 Fiberglass rod I picked up at a garage sale.
Snell Knots now that you have a good description of my set up I use for Goliath ’s lets get back to the fishing that day shall we. Jorge, Luis and I saw an entire squad of these Goliath under my boat...they were big and hungry.
Oh, you never heard of the Goliath Prayer...well it goes something like this.....Oh, god almighty as I embark into battle with the Goliath demon please guide my reel, fishing line, and my body to glory...and please almighty do not let the demon Goliath drag me down under straight to his underwater lair for all eternity amen. So I gabbed Doomsday and opened the live well and selected my bait...a nice Look down.
He turned and made a dash for the other side of the boat and after about 25 minutes I was wearing away...my arms and back could not hold on anymore.... DoomsDay was in danger of being sucked down into the depths with Invites. I had to make the decision to hand the fight over to Luis or Jorge.
Invites the Goliath on Bull buster 100lb Mono and 300lb Grander Leader He was not happy and made another dash to try to get away but it was not his day...we had him. Once we had Invites subdued we all took pictures with this beautiful powerful fish and then gave it a few good pats and set it free.
Albert with Goliath Invites swam back to his lair knowing he was beaten this day...we tagged teamed him and brought him in. Jorge and I were tired it is no joke fighting and landing these fish...if you have never done it you have to try it one day so you can see what it is all about.
If you want to go after 300lb plus Goliath you need a different set up...minimum I would suggest would be a 50-80 wide reel with at least 200lb braid and a very good rod. I hope my article helps you catch more fish now get out there and go get some Goliath's.
I have been pier fishing for most of my life but more recently I have seen people start to target Goliath Groupers for Sport. They have bulletproof construction and great drag ratings for the size of reel.
The Avert 30 put out around 40 pounds of drag on full and 35 max at strike. The 400lb mono acts as a shock leader and it has superior abrasion resistance.
Another thing I like about this rod is that it has Fuji Fowl proof guides. It allows me to pitch baits out without having to worry about my FG knot getting caught up in roller guides.
Another reason I like Star Rods is the fact that they offer a lifetime warranty on their products. The bait of choice is a live jack crevasse, lady fish or moon fish.
Epimetheus Tamara may be a widespread, slow growing, and aggregating species that has undergone vital population reduction over the past three generations (40.5 years) calculable to be a minimum of 80th based on landings information and underwater visual censuses. Despite clear and promising signs of recovery in us waters following the 1990 moratorium, the will increase in numbers noted area unit young and juvenile fish (the species takes five to six years to become sexually mature).
The goliathgrouper occurs within the western Atlantic Ocean from Florida south to Brazil, including the Gulf of Mexico and also the Caribbean Sea. This marine fish inhabits shallow, inshore waters with mud, rock or coral bottoms and is infrequently found below depths of 46 meters.
It’s territorial close to areas of refuge like caves, wrecks, and ledges, displaying an open mouth and quivering body to intruders. Young Atlantic goliathgrouper could sleep in salt estuaries, oyster beds, canals, and mangrove swamps, which is unusual behavior among groupers.
Scientific Name: Epimetheus Tamara Lifespan: up to 37 years Origin: Us Common Names : goliathgrouper, Jewish, black bass, one grouper, giant sea bass, grouper, hamlet, southern Jewish, and spotted Jewish Size : 98 inches (248 cm) PH: 7 – 8 Temperature : N/A Water Hardness : N/A Fish type: N/A Aquarium Size :N/A Tank Mates : N/A Gender : These teams occur at consistent sites like wrecks, rock ledges and isolated patch reefs during July, August and September.
Studies have shown fish could move up to 62 miles (100 km) from inshore reefs to these spawning sites. In southwest Florida, plausible entreaty behavior has been observed during the complete moons in August and September.
Occurring in shallow, inshore waters to depths of 150 feet (46 m), the Epimetheus Tamara prefers areas of rock, coral, and mud bottoms. It’s a classic apex predator, large, rare and solely some people occur on any given reef unit.
As with other fish, the Atlantic goliathgrouper is the host of several species of parasites, including the diplectanid monogenean Pseudorhabdosynochus Americans on its gills. Calico crabs frame the bulk of their diet, with alternative invertebrate species and fish filling within the rest.
Goliath grouper feed mostly on crustaceans (in particular spiny lobsters, shrimps and crabs), fishes (including stingrays and parrot fishes), octopus, and young ocean turtles. GoliathGrouper have made a major comeback over recent years after being completely decimated by commercial pressure in the 70s and 80s.
Goliath's can reach weights over 600lbs and love to engulf anything they can fit in their mouths, whether that is a jack, snapper, shook or permit, they couldn't care less. Although their aggressive personalities make them easy to hook, pulling them away from the safety of their dens is another matter entirely.
Depending mainly on the depth of the water and the structure, we employ 30-80 size reels on broom sticks for stand-up rods. They are found in the warmer waters of the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, and points south.
While they are a powerful fish that puts up a strong battle, grouper are prized by many anglers for their flaky white fillets! There are quite a few other species of grouper that are found in deeper waters and throughout the Bahamas and other locations.
For the most part, their habits are very similar and will be treated all the same when it comes to tackle and techniques. The one thing that all groupers have in common is that they are bottom dwelling, structure oriented fish.
Seldom will one be found high up in the water column or on sandy bottom with no structure. Reefs, wrecks, artificial reefs, areas of rocky bottom, and ledges are the top spots where anglers catch grouper in open water.
Penn is THE name in saltwater tackle and makes some excellent equipment at reasonable prices. This can handle most the bottom fishing situations as well as some light tackle trolling.
Anglers fishing in hundreds of feet of water in the Atlantic Ocean with heavy lead will need a stouter outfit than those fishing in 40 feet of water in the Gulf of Mexico. Anglers fishing in shallow, clear water sometimes find that lighter spinning tackle makes a more natural presentation.
Some anglers simply prefer the comfort and feel of a spinning outfit. This mostly occurs in the shallow waters of the Bahamas and the Gulf of Mexico north of Tampa.
Therefore, anglers anchor or drift a decent distance from the spot and cast live baits or lures in towards the structure. A 7-8 foot heavy action rod with a 6000 series real is a good all-around combination.
In water much deeper than 50 feet, conventional outfits are simply a better choice. While the initial cost is higher, braided line last much longer than monofilament.
Braided line is also thinner in diameter, which allows it to sink faster when fishing in deep water. Many use a strong black swivel to connect the leader to the main line.
A sliding sinker is often placed on the main line and then the swivel stops it from going any further. Leader length and strength varies greatly, depending on the fishing situation.
In very deep water, just reeling and coming tight as is done with circle hooks works the best anyway. The weight is generally placed on the running line ahead of the swivel that attaches the leader.
However, there is another rig that works very well for grouper fishing, particularly in water shallower than 100 feet. With this rig, the sinker slides on the leader and rest right on the eye of the hook.
Also, when snagged up, the sinker jerking up on the line then banging the eye of the hook will often free it. With this rig, multiple hooks are tied off of dropper loops on the main line.
The bank sinker works well as it tends to walk and bounce off of rocks and other snags. While most grouper are caught on live or natural bait, there are a few situations when they can be taken on artificial lures as well.
Trolling with deep diving plugs is an incredibly effective technique when grouper are in fairly shallow water. It allows anglers to cover a lot of water over a large piece of structure in search of fish.
Trolling is effective anywhere that there is submerged structure in the 50 feet deep or shallower range. The shallow waters of the Gulf of Mexico, channel edges and large bays such as Tampa Bay, and coral reefs of the Caribbean are prime spots to troll for grouper.
They are categorized by size, giving anglers a good idea of how deep they will go. Papal and several other lure manufacturers also make quality deep diving plugs for grouper fishing.
With the boat idling along at 4 to 5 knots, the plug will dig down to the maximum depth, putting out a lot of flash and vibration. A down rigger is a device with a cable and a heavy ball which takes the lure down deep.
This technique is used extensively in the Great Lakes region for walleye and salmon. Grouper can also be caught by anglers casting artificial lures, though there are limited situations where this can occur.
Basically, when grouper are holding over structure in fairly shallow water, usually 10 feet deep or shallower, casting lures over the structure and retrieving them back in can produce jarring strikes from grouper. Plugs will dive to a determined depth, while jigs can be worked through the entire water column but are extremely effective when bounced on the bottom right on top of the structure.
White buck tail jigs are often used and can be tipped with a strip of squid or cut fish. There are basically four types of grouper that are found in good numbers in the United States.
Gag grouper are very aggressive and are the species most often targeted by anglers fishing with artificial lures. Black grouper are normally found in the deeper waters of the Atlantic Ocean and down around the Florida Keys.
Surprisingly, they are often encountered in the inshore waters, as shallow as five or 6 feet deep. Many a large Goliath grouper has surprised an angler casting to the mangroves for shook or redfish.
It is not at all uncommon for an angler to lose a 5 pound snapper or grouper to a big, hungry Goliath grouper. How to build three proven rigs for taking grouper, snapper and other bottom species.
Consistent success demands precise anchoring or drifting tactics, specialized rigs, a strong back and plenty of elbow grease, not to mention a little of luck. Should all of these elements fall into place, you'll find yourself muscling big fish out of the depths and into your cooler.
As simple as they might appear, bottom rigs have a major influence on success, or lack thereof. For many fishermen, the main selling point of fluorocarbon is that the material is simply less visible than traditional nylon monofilament.
Therefore, in murky water, where leader visibility isn't a concern, fluorocarbon still offers an advantage that justifies its expense. For groupers and amber jack, I'll use a large, double-strength, short-shank hook in a size ranging from 8/0 to 11/0, one with a relatively wide gap if I'm dropping big live baits.
Although there are numerous variations when it comes to bottom rigs, outlined on the following pages are three highly effective versions that will fool more big snappers, groupers, amber jack and cobra around reefs, wrecks and other structure. This is a good rig to use with weights heavier than 16 ounces and for fishing over heavy structure.
The weight, usually a bank sinker, is connected to the third eye of the swivel via several inches of lighter line. This rig boasts many of the same advantages as the in-line version when using a long leader, plus the heavy sinker won't chafe the fishing line.
Furthermore, should the rig snag on the bottom, it can usually be freed by locking down the drag and winding tight until the lighter line holding the sinker parts. However, the short leader provides hardly any slack for a fish to dive back into the structure before or at the moment the hook is set.
Then I tie on six feet of 40- or 50-pound fluorocarbon and a 5/0 to 8/0 circle hook, based on the bait I'm using and size of the fish. It's also productive when fishing the bottom well up current of a wreck or reef. The long leader allows a live bait to swim relatively unrestricted, or a dead one to float more naturally in the current.
As the in-line egg sinker rests on bottom, the bait flutters enticingly above it some 15 to 25 feet back. Should a suspicious fish peck at the bait, the play in the long leader usually prevents it from detecting any resistance.
They are powerful and really make you fight to pull them out of the intense structure. The first bait that hit the water was eaten just below the surface.
The grouper were very active today, inhaling any bait that drifts past. Alan was first up on the reel and pulled out a nice sized Goliath.
This fish had some extra metal, another hook and leader stuck deep inside its throat. This is common as these fish love to swim by unsuspecting fishermen and steal whatever bait its dangling from the hook.
The Goliath, Epimetheus Tamara, is the largest grouper in the western hemisphere, and can reach 8 feet in length and more than 1,000 pounds. A 4.6-foot-long female caught at a spawning aggregation contained 57 million eggs.
For a few weeks each year, spawning aggregations of up to 100 goliathgrouper occur at specific times and locations. Small (under 4 feet, or five to six years old) goliathgrouper live around mangroves; larger adults prefer coral reefs.
Forty percent of goliathgrouper caught in Belize had mercury levels exceeding the U. S.-recommended levels for human consumption. These adaptable fish can live in brackish water and tolerate low oxygen levels.
A goliathgrouper ’s age can be estimated using annual growth rings in its dorsal fin rays, much like those found within tree trunks. Survival is threatened by overfishing and loss of the inshore mangrove habitat required by juveniles.
Despite having teeth, goliathgrouper engulf and swallow prey whole. Human mutated by exposure to the Pym Particles he discovered which allowed him to alter his size.
Dr. Henry “Hank” Pym, Ph.D., is an American; entomologist, biochemist, roboticist, engineer and physicist and Scientific Adventurer “. He built a suit and for a time, became the original Ant-Man, fighting beside his future wife, Janet Van Done, who had taken on the mantle of the Wasp.
After a nervous breakdown he changed identities to Yellow jacket, and then later to the Wasp to honor his deceased wife. A prodigy from birth, he spent his time creating fantastical and fun inventions encourage by his grandmother.
Pym excelled better than any of his classmates, earning his doctorate in biochemistry while his friends were still undergrads. He married Maria Today, a brave and beautiful young woman who had been a political dissident in her native Hungary, from which she had fled.
Naively believing that his American citizenship would protect her, Henry and Maria Pym traveled to Hungary shortly after their marriage. Pym was greatly distraught by his wife's death, and decided to do whatever he could in the future to battle injustice and inhumanity.
After months of work, Pym succeeded in creating his first cybernetic helmet,” which would enable him to communicate with the ants through transmitting and receiving psionic / electrical waves. Thinking that someday he might want to use the shrinking potion on himself again, Pym also designed a protective suit for himself, Unstable Molecules and steel mesh.
That same day, however, Pym received an assignment from the government to concoct a gas that would provide people with temporary, limited immunity to radioactivity under certain specific circumstances, based on his previous work. Only Pym knew the entire formula for the gas they had by now developed, and he refused to tell the Soviet agents.
The agents set about searching the laboratory for the formula, intending to kill Pym and his assistants afterward. Unseen, Pym donned the cybernetic helmet and protective costume and, using his reducing formula, shrank himself to the size of an ant.
He escaped to an anthill outside, put many ants under his control through the helmet, and used them to attack the agents and free his men, who then overpowered their assailants. Afterwards, in the guise of the Ant-Man, Pym battled various menaces, including Comrade X, the Protector, the criminal scientist Elias “Egghead” Starr, who was to become Pym's greatest enemy, as well as the Scarlet Beetle, the Hijacker, the alien Sulla, the Voice and the Time Master.
After an alien being from the Cosmos dimension killed Pym's colleague, the scientist Vernon van Done, Pym revealed his secret identity of Ant-Man to van Done's daughter Janet, who wished to avenge his death. As the Wasp, Janet van Done assisted the Ant-Man in finding and defeating the murderous Osmosis.
Pym and van Done became crime-fighting partners in their costumed identities, fighting menaces like the Egghead, the A-Chiltarians and their robot Cyclops, the trumpet-playing criminal Tr ago, the Porcupine, the Human Top and the Black Knight (Nathan Garrett). In order to help the Avengers rescue van Done, Pym decided to use his growing power again, he donned a new costume and adopted the new name of Goliath.
In the course of the Avengers' battle against the Collector, Goliath overstayed this time limit, and, on trying to regain his normal size, could not shrink beneath ten feet. The Collector later subjected Pym to treatments that enabled him to grow to 25 feet in height for up to 15 minutes.
Its evil deeds would long plague Pym with guilt, especially since, as he was forced to admit much later, he had used his own brain patterns as the engram basis of Patron's robotic mind. For several years, Pym had been in love with Janet van Done, but because of his repressed personality, and her abundant wealth, he resisted marrying her.
One day while working in his laboratory, whilst thinking of the fact that he wanted to marry van Done but couldn't, Pym accidentally dropped and smashed some vials containing various unknown gases. The released gases wreaked a radical temporary personality change in Pym, what could be seen as a severe case of schizophrenia.
Realizing that Yellow jacket was really Pym, Van Done decided to play along, fearing that she would worsen his psychological condition if she did otherwise. Van Done and Pym, as Yellow jacket were married at Avengers Mansion amidst an assembled who's who of superheroes active at the time, as well as some villains who were hiding and secretly pretending to be the caterers.
Pym renounced his power to become a giant due to its continuing physical strains and used the name and costume of Yellow jacket in crime-fighting. As a result, he was overcome with a sense that he was a failure as a scientist, judged by his own impossibly high standards.
This sense of failure was exacerbated when he considered his wife's success as a fashion designer and realized that, as a millionaire, she was the principal source of money in their marriage. Suspecting that the Elf queen was not acting from evil motives, Captain America attempted to calm her down.
Yellow jacket, who was edgy because of his personal matters, blasted Elf queen from behind without stopping to consider what Captain America was trying to do. As a result, Elf queen resumed fighting, almost crushing a truck onto Pym until the Wasp saved him.
Now beginning to undergo a nervous breakdown, Pym built a robot to attack Avengers Mansion during the court-martial. Pym fantasized that his defeat of the robot would make him a hero in the Avengers' eyes and lead to the dismissal of the charges.
Astonishingly, Pym was now virtually penniless, since his books were out of print, and he had somehow exhausted the money he had earned from his patents. He had rejected van Done's offer to help him get back on his feet with monthly checks.
Needing the money, Pym fulfilled his assignment, but found that the bionic arm placed “Trish” Starr under Egghead's control. Egghead informed Pym that the bionic arm was booby-trapped and that he could detonate it, killing Trish unless he obeyed his orders.
As a result, Pym was forced to help steal Adamant from the government and to fight the Avengers, who defeated him. Moreover, Trish Starr had been “programmed” by her uncle's technology to claim that it was Pym's plot, not Egghead's.
To add insult to injury, van Done began dating Tony Stark, although she broke off the relationship after learning that he was Iron Man. During Pym's trial, he was captured by the third group calling itself the Masters of Evil, who claimed to be “rescuing” him.
Actually, they worked for Egghead, who, having successfully framed Pym, now asked him to join their criminal organization. Pym pretended to agree, and Egghead set him to work on developing a machine intended to lengthen the human life span.
The Avenger Hawkeye sneaked into the hideout and saw Egghead aiming a gun at the unsuspecting Pym. Upon his release Pym decided, after an emotional goodbye to all the Avengers (especially Janet), to give up being a costumed adventurer and returned permanently to a life of scientific research.
Teammate Tiara, with her cat-like need for attention, attempted to maintain relationships with both Pym and Wonder Man at the same time. Later, van Done was assigned to West Coast duty, which placed both in an awkward situation.
Pym was on hand with the other Avengers who seemingly sacrificed their lives to absorb the energies of the being known as Onslaught. When he and the other heroes were restored to Earth, Pym found that he was capable of his full range of size-changing abilities, although he could not shrink and grow other objects unless he specifically treated them in his laboratory.
Hank and Janet also returned to their previous romantic relationship, although he was initially distant due to his fear of another breakdown. However, on a trip to Las Vegas Jan turned down a proposal of Hank's stating she would not marry him again.
Pym helped reform the Avengers with the other restored heroes, stopping the menace of the sorceress Morgan Le Fay. Patron intended to use the mental engrams of all the members of its “family” when building a new robot army with Pym's latest research.
When Hawkeye returned from his own inactivity, however, Janet began a flirt with him that left Hank reeling. When the Scarlet Witch had her breakdown that disassembled the Avengers, Hank rushed Janet to the hospital when she was put into a coma by an enraged She-Hulk, where he stayed at her side.
After Hank and Jan's last attempt at reconciliation, their relationship turned bitter, and she left him, eventually returning to America. During this time Hank began a relationship with a young college student at Oxford University.
He did not like what he found: the aftermath of the Civil War and the death of the Wasp came as great shocks to the troubled hero. Seeking to affirm his place in the world and seeking to memorialize his late ex-wife, Pym adopted the identity of the Wasp, eventually building the new Mighty Avengers alongside Jocasta, the robot harboring the brain engrams of van Done.
Hank took part in attempting to bring the first Captain America back after he was discovered to be trapped in time. The Norse trickster god Loki later claimed to have been posing as Eternity in order to manipulate Pym.
After saving young superhuman from Norman Osborn he formed the Avengers Academy and promised he would find some way to “cure” the teens. He inspected Tigra's child William Grant, who was fathered by Hank's Skull impostor Critic Poll.
He also helped Iron Man make the Phoenix-Killer Armor, and later assisted Pixie in damage control as Dark Phoenix (Scott Summers) ran rampant. Their brief reunion was cut short by the Micro verse gangster Lord Cougar who was trying to kill Janet.
Years ago, Hank Pym was approached by the Wolverine of an alternate universe, where Patron managed to launch a massive and sudden attack on New York, and the rest of the world, quickly taking over the whole planet and annihilating humankind, and wanted to kill Pym in order to prevent his future from happening. But Logan was stopped by the Wolverine of a near future, whose actions of killing Hank Pym created a timeline where Earth was constantly threatened by Morgan LE Fay, and the heroes struggled to survive.
Pym was allowed to live, but he was tasked to create a hidden fail safe program to destroy Patron when needed. In the present day, Pym continued to investigate what he did wrong with Patron, and apparently found the answer.
After the supposed death of Victor Manchu, Pym locked himself up in his secret lab running numerous games and recording his brain activities at the same time, when Monica Chang confronted him, he revealed that he suffered from Bi-Polar Disorder. Returned to his Yellow jacket identity, Hank Pym joined the Illuminati and went into hiding with them due to the Avengers being on the hunt for them.
He was sent on a journey across the Multiverse to find answers to the cause of the Incursions, expecting to encounter Ra bum All. He was assumed to be lost forever, but returned eight months later to Earth-616 and reported that he had found the Sanders, and gave the Illuminati all the information he could gather.
Years into the past, the Avengers were fighting a version of Patron (most likely Ultron-7), who attempted to access nuclear weapons in order to destroy humanity in the name of his father Hank Pym. After their custom Quintet crashed, Yellow jacket faked being on his deathbed in order to lure Patron to the vehicle, who wanted to witness his creator's last moments.
In the present, the Quintet crashed in Titan, after years of isolation and being consumed by only one emotion: rage. And started infecting all the Eternal, turning them into robots like him, soon completely taking over the satellite and its inhabitants, except Star fox, who managed to escape in order to warn the Avengers.
Patron managed to force Hank into the amalgamation and pushed Vision out, causing both to become merged into a single being. Thus activated, the field reduced his entire body at a uniform rate to the smaller size he desired.
These particles interacted with his brain to create an organism-wide “enlarging field,” which is energized by mental command. The growth process required the rapid acquisition of bodily mass, comes from an extra dimensional source.
He is capable of growing hundreds of feet tall exceeding the heights of even the tallest buildings in New York. He can grow past the barriers of the “Micro verse” to enter Over space, a point above and apart from all other realities where it is possible to confer with abstract cosmic entities.
Such as shrinking down to enter the Micro verse, and on one occasion growing into the plane inhabited by such cosmic beings as the Living Tribunal and the In-Betweener. Wasp Stings : Pym is capable of firing powerful, bioelectric energy blasts from his hands much like his deceased ex-wife.
He could presumably match Van Done's top flight speed, flying up to 38 mph for up to an hour before tiring. Super-Genius Intelligence: Dr. Henry Pym is one of the world's foremost biochemists and also possesses considerable expertise in numerous scientific fields such as subatomic physics, robotics, cybernetics, artificial intelligence, programming, emergency medicine, optics and entomology.
He has also referred himself one of the five smartest people on the planet which makes him capable of rivaling others such as Reed Richards and is regarded by the Eternity as the Earth's “Scientist Supreme”. Another robot, Rover, was a jet with rudimentary artificial intelligence and sophisticated offensive capabilities.
If he is small, he takes advantage of the opponent's larger form by assaulting points of his/her body that they would not expect and move to another before they detected him. If he was giant, he would take advantage of his own massive form and use attacks that would either throw them off balance or render them unconscious before they could concoct a better strategy against him.
Capable pilot of aircraft ranging from conventional helicopters to high tech vehicles such as the Avengers Quintets. Pym has the normal human strength of a man of his age, height, and build who engages in intensive regular exercise.
The higher Pym grows past 25 feet, the more of his strength he had to use simply to support his own enormous mass. He is capable of Class 100 strength at heights beyond 100 feet tall, though he usually cannot maintain those gigantic sizes for long.
At one point, Hank created a separate personality for himself as the Yellow jacket but claimed to have actually killed Pym. Toolbox: The toolbox is a small, technological, handheld multi-tool device that stores hundreds of useful such as a key, minicomputer, and energy sword which are all shrunken down to microscopic sizes with a computer programmed “smart chip” giving Pym the right, or appropriate tool in any situation.
Also, Pym formerly required gas capsules or potions to shrink, grow, or return to normal size. The various compartments on his Goliath uniform straps contain a wide variety of miniaturized equipment.
Wasp Goggles: Pym wears a pair of specially designed goggles that enhanced his peripheral vision and could make video recordings of whatever he saw, they also contained a retinal scanner and analytical sensors, including devices that analyzed different kinds of energy, even magical energy, transmit his thoughts as radio frequencies to receiving radio equipment such as his Ant-Man helmet, and communicate with insects when not serving as eye protection. Rover Airship : It that had an artificial intelligence capable of human speech and complex reasoning.
Bug shaped, the VTOL airship comfortably seated two people and could hover or fly up to 250 mph; emit acids, flames, gases or a spotlight from its front grille, project elongating metallic tentacles used for gripping or grappling and climb up sheer surfaces using its insect-like legs. “The Stinger”: Pym currently carries a small, technological firearm that converts his body's mutated, bio-electric aura and fires it as a powerful stun beam.
On March 29, 2011, many years after Hank's marriage to Janet ended, writer Jim Shooter publicly commented on the infamous arc via a blog in which he denounced the claims that Pym was a “wife-beater”. He explained that he had intended for Pym to strike Janet accidentally, but when artist Bob Hall drew the panel, the exaggerated motion made it appear as if he deliberately slapped her.
Shooter claimed that there was not enough time before his deadline to have the frames redrawn, and as a result, the details of Pym's personal suffering were overshadowed by his being labelled a “wife-beater”. Hall subsequently commented that he was still new to the industry at the time he drew the panel, and admitted that the final product may have been in stark contrast to Shooter's intent.
Early in his career, Henry Pym worried about what would happen if he someday met defeat and death. In order to avoid contemplating his past, Henry Pym worked obsessively at his laboratory.
This suggests that his health problems could be partly caused by malnutrition and sleep deprivation. When Kerr, a winged ant, sacrificed its life to save Pym, he was deeply disturbed by its death.
