During this closure, anglers can harvest grouper in open federal waters of the Gulf and return to port in Monroe County by traveling through closed state waters of the Atlantic as long as the vessel proceeds directly to port without stopping to fish.

FOR THE GOOD OF ALL As our country opens up again, states are doing their best to reopen parks, fishing, hunting and other outdoor activities to the public, HOWEVER it is YOU that must follow the guidelines set by NPS.gov. Here are the regulations for the Atlantic state waters, which are from shore to 3 nautical miles.
The minimum size limit for gag and black grouper is 24” total length, the minimum size for red, scamp, yellow fin, and yellow mouth grouper is 20” total length, and there is no minimum size for rock hind/red hind, Coney/grays by, yellow edge/misty, Warsaw, or snowy grouper. An aggregate bag limit of 3 grouper per person per day is allowed with some stipulations.
For red, scamp, yellow fin, yellow mouth, rock hind/red hind, Coney/grays by, and yellow edge/misty, you are allowed up to 3 per person per day within the 3- grouper aggregate. Sight-fish the trout on the flats by casting to shallow depressions in the grass or white sandy spots where the fish are lying in ambush.
Redfish can be found in 1-2 feet of water and may be seen tailing as they feed on small crustaceans. Indian River Lagoon: Black drum, juvenile tarpon, mangrove snapper, trout and sleepyhead are being caught in the residential canals around Merritt Island.
Sebastian Inlet: Redfish and shook are being caught during the beginning of the incoming tide around the north jetty, mostly on live bait like pinkish or croaked. Remember, the 3-month seasonal closure for shook harvest begins June 1.

NOAA Fisheries is responsible for determining if a season can be allowed each year, based on the annual catch limits for red snapper. The recreational annual catch limit is currently set at 29,656 fish for the South Atlantic region, covering the Carolina's, Georgia and the east coast of Florida.
The data are collected by individual state agencies, as well as NOAA Fisheries Marine Recreational Information Program and the Southeast Regional Head boat Survey. The red snapper commercial season will begin the second Monday in July as scheduled with a 75-pound trip limit.
