Florida ’s rules and regulations are designed to help ensure the safety of all the people in Florida, visitors and residents alike, and to help make sure that one of the state’s most important economic engines is protected and maintained for future generations. Not knowing the rules puts people at risk of seriously damaging everyone’s current and future fishing opportunities.

Not knowing the rules also puts people in the position of breaking them, and that can mean incurring a fine or, in extreme cases, imprisonment. All anglers are legally required to be familiar with the rules and regulations governing the type of fishing they are doing.

Anglers catch hundreds of brawny, beautiful and delicious species in teeming estuaries, off gorgeous beaches and in the deep blue oceans surrounding the Florida peninsula. The reasons for fishing are as varied as the species and the methods of catching them.

Or, catch bass species that thrive only in North Florida rivers such as the magnificent Suwanee, where class III rapids add serious excitement to a fishing trip on the river between White Springs and the Town of Suwanee, where the river passes through the Lower Suwanee National Wildlife Refuge, pouring out into the Gulf of Mexico. Whether it’s a red snapper caught off Destiny, speckled trout from Tampa Bay, or a mess of crappie from Tallahassee ’s Lake Alcuin, there’s not much more satisfying or delicious than eating fish you caught yourself.

Most places toucan find a restaurant that will cook your catch to order. Florida ’s the place to fire up a young angler’s inner fishing fanatic.

Spring break or summer vacation are both great times for feisty, delicious easy-to-catch fish. The biggest sea trout on record came from Fort Pierce.

New Federal Government restrictions for coronavirus implemented on Sunday night mean recreational boating and fishing for leisure is no longer permitted. Only those boating and fishing for “essential purposes” is allowed, including travelling to work, to get provisions from the shops, or those providing for their families.

Authorities say the restrictions will help protect the community, particularly those in rescue services, who have still been responding to jobs amid the pandemic. Queensland's Transport Minister Mark Bailey said the unfolding coronavirus outbreak had forced restrictions on a range of outdoor activities, and boating and fishing for leisure was part of that.

Breaking down the latest news and research to understand how the world is living through an epidemic, this is the ABC's Corona cast podcast. “As from Sunday, Federal Government direction is that public gatherings are restricted to no more than two persons, excluding household members, and that people should stay home,” MSC general manager Angus Mitchell said.

Acting Sergeant Median said high numbers of people have been heading out on boats across Queensland waters in recent days, and rescue services have had to continue responding to calls. “Even with exercise, people are only meant to be going out briefly to do an actual fitness activity, not spending the whole day out on the boat.

TV fishing presenter Scott Hillier said he sympathized with passionate boaties and anglers, but said the messaging was clear and vital during “unprecedented and trying times”. Restrictions can vary (either interstate, or even on the opposite side of a river) so ensuring you are familiar with the rules in place will help protect our fisheries resources and save you from receiving a fine.
