I think dockside Dave's has a good grouper sandwich. I would throw in a trip to the beach and go to The Hurricane in Pass-a-Grille.

This tiny Cortez restaurant has made the national news, and there’s good reason for that: The grouper sandwich here was insanely fresh, simply grilled and served no-frills style in an unassuming white box. Yup, we were a little shocked ourselves, but this was by far the fanciest grouper sandwich of the bunch, served blackened and topped with Key lime mustard, avocado and fresh lettuce and tomato.

The owners original concept was to take a small popular village beer and hot dog stand and turn it into a casual Restaurant and Pub. They have mixed the best of the Florida Keys and their British heritage to create a fun family environment that is appealing to people from all walks of life. There are now 2 locations, and they are patronized not only by their many regular local customers and characters, but they also enjoy abundant new and repeat business from all over the United States and from around the World.

Although the portions have gotten much smaller in recent years, this is still the best spot for a fresh grouper sandwich. Also, famous for their massive hot dogs that are sure to please.

It's been a favorite for taking visitors for lunch for many years, average food and good views of the water. Special was snapper, I ordered it as a sandwich grilled.

Still slammed with tourists even today but that shouldn't change the food quality. Typical bar type, casual food, but it was decent.

Great view of inter -coastal and cool boat marina right next door. The Reuben grouper was soggy the bread didn’t hold up.

But our server was very nice and honest with which seafood was made Sarasota fresh, and she tended to our needs especially with a hungry angry 4-year-old. I've eaten at the Old Salty Dog several times in the past and might have reviewed it years ago.

It was mainly a good place for casual food on the water. This weekend I went with a friend who was visiting and again, wanted to go to a place with water views.

Delicious Mali with large pieces of grilled fish and a great sauce. We had an edamame medley and coleslaw...with Coronas.

Finally, we didn’t forget about all the great restaurants offering outdoor dining along the Manatee River in Bradenton, Palmetto and Ellen ton or in the historic fishing village of Cortez. Serving lunch and dinner daily and staying open until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, Kokomo’s popular menu items include all things AHI tuna: the “Sunset” appetizer, the wrap, salad, and the seared AHI tuna tacos with sweet chili slaw, lettuce, fried onions and orange mandarin ginger dressing. To each own when it comes to the whole fried/blackened/grilled dilemma, but we do have to say the blackened grouper sandwiches at Big Ray's are legendary. If it weren't for these sandwiches, homemade onion rings could easily be the star of the show.
