Open now11:00 – 00:00American, Irish, British, Salads I came here for lunch with a group of friends and my sandwich was more than satisfying.

$ $$$ Most of our group got lunch options like a Reuben sandwich, Ham & cheese sandwich, Taco salad, Wings, etc. Nevertheless, you can get a burger, steak, grouper, ribs, etc.

If you find your deal on another fishing website at a lower rate, contact our customer care team. You have contacted us immediately after booking with all the details of the other deal including a link to the offer on the website and the exact price being quoted.

I attempted to invite a couple of Benny speculators in a thread I came across and thought maybe by offering to share with them some required info for finding and catching big fish on the bottom. 3 Groupers Yellow, Red and short Black released 4 Buttons 4 YT and several fish lost that cut the line.

Map updates are paused. The crystal clear waters of the Upper Keys not only offer world-class wreck diving, they are also a highly-regarded sport fishing destination.

Enjoy the thrill of a fight with a super-fast Sailfish or set your eyes on some of the finest Tarpon, Trout, Shook, Red Fish and Bone fish in the world. Fish the waters for Marlin, Sailfish, Spearfish, King fish, Dolphin, Yahoo, Tuna, Barracuda, Cobra, Grouper, Snapper, Jacks and Sharks.

Here you will find schools of Permit, Barracuda, Snapper, Amber jacks and Mackerel inhabiting the coral structures. If you choose to adventure alone, a huge selection of rental boats are available to ensure your fishing trip is perfect.

Lying at a depth of 120 feet, she's found offshore of Lower Macumba Key, or 3 miles northeast of the Alligator Reef light. In 1974, she once again changed hands, being purchased by a company operating out of Haifa, Israel, who renamed her Carmela.

Shortly thereafter in 1976, she was purchased by another company stationed out of the Cayman Islands who changed her name to TAI. Her owners sold her to a company based out of the British Virgin Islands, who repaired her and changed her name to ETA.

Docked at Miami River, this was the end of the road for the Arron K. However, the Monroe County Tourist Council along with other interested local parties came together, and purchased her as part of their Artificial Reef Program. In preparation for her scuttling she was towed out to the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.

With the help of the Miami and Made County Bomb Squad and the $873 load of explosives she carried, she sank in 90 seconds on her starboard side. In 1998, her position changed once again, when the strong winds and waves from Hurricane George managed to rip the vessel in two.

As you continue on to her final depth of 115 feet, you'll see that each section of this ship is becoming encrusted with coral, and that she houses a variety of tropical and game fish. If you're Cargo diving this area, when winning around the bow section you'll encounter her port side anchor chain positioned away from the ship.

You can follow the chain until it disappears into the sand, and you'll be able to spot the anchor located a bit further from the Eagle Wreck. When you reach the stern, you'll encounter her tandem cargo booms, and still affixed large, four blades propeller.

As you move around the Eagle wreck, you'll also encounter a fairly broad debris field which includes bits and pieces of her hull and mast. Cut-outs were also made in her starboard side and holes blasted in her hull to provide for swim through to make it easier for diving into the wreck.

This means you'll have a good overview of her form as you descend and multiple opportunities for underwater photography shots. Since you won't always know what to expect, to be safe, hold the mooring lines attached to either the bow, midships or stern area as you descend and ascend.

Marine Life Oregonian and stony coral, ocean sponges, grouper, angelfish, parrot fish, Goliath grouper, yellowtail, barracuda, spiny oysters, shark, cobra, amberjack Even though the Eagle Wreck was just a typical coastal freighter of no significant importance, she's rapidly become one of the best advanced Cargo dive sites. Not only does she provide structural interest, her highly diverse marine life continues to evolve with her, in her new role as an artificial reef in the Florida Keys.

Enjoy a day of Cargo fishing with Captain Brandon Jimenez and Sea Durer Charters. Sea Durer Cargo Charters fish aboard a 43-foot Torres sport fishing that is well suited to the toughest anglers as well as to families looking for a fun day out on the water.

One of the larger boats in the area, ‘Sea Spirit’ offers a fast and stable ride to the fishing grounds. His love of fishing has led him to travel all through the Caribbean and settle in Central America for two years to experience the fantastic fishery in the area.

Fortunately, timing worked out and Monroe County (FL Keys) re-opened for tourist on June 1st. I was able to get a credit for the base ticket valid for 24 months and refund on seat upgrades.

I then re-booked with Delta, my preferred airline for a much more convenient route through ATL into FLL (Fort Lauderdale). Getting from terminal 2 to the rental car pick-up was a short walk; I opted not to wait around for the shuttle.

There was a slow down right at US 1 due to what looked like a broken down car that probably added 15-20 minutes travel time. I don’t know precisely the cause other than we were told the passenger was not complying with flight attendant instruction, not sure if it was mask related.

More expensive than I expected though, I’m not sure if that’s just FLL/south FL or I should have shopped around, it ended up running $500 for an intermediate when I anticipated more along the $350 range. I’ll do more shopping around next time to make sure I’m not overpaying for a rental car.

I stayed at the Atlantic Bay Resort in Ta vernier, a 3-5 minute drive to the diver operator which was very convenient. I selected ABR based upon suggestions from a couple dive buddies who have done many trips to the keys.

I selected an efficiency which was more than adequate, not overly fancy but clean and nice with a full fridge, microwave and set of dishes and utensils. Plenty of chairs, umbrellas and a couple cabanas to enjoy the gulf side views.

My options were down to basically 3 and I went with CRD due to the reputation for being geared more toward independent minded divers and a large (46’) boat. The forecast wasn’t looking great a week out but the weather ended up being excellent all 3 dive days.

They are definitely geared toward independent divers, they are efficient at getting the boat loaded and headed out. They were only filling the boat to half capacity so there was plenty of room on board.

The visibility was a little low at Dante and both sites were around 70’ max dive depth. This site was filled with nurse shark, assorted fish (big schools) and some nice reef topology with ledges.

Snapper ledge was similar, the reef topology wasn’t quite as interesting but the fish life was abundant. The visibility was improved and both sites are shallow which was nice for shooting wide angle.

There were several nurse shark that looked to be close to 8 feet and a few of the moray were pretty massive too. The abundance of fish life greatly surpassed my dive experiences in Grand Cayman.

My favorite was Mrs Macs (shrimp basket) and the key lime pie was very good. My topside leisure activities consisted mostly of lounging and reading but I checked out a few “beaches” too.

I think that’s the biggest limitation on whether the Keys would become a family destination vs just a solo dive trip for me. I had to stop by divers direct for a few goodies of course but missed the dive history museum, next time I suppose.

We are driving down to Key Largo for diving at the end of this month (from SE Fla) so I appreciated your report. We are driving down to Key Largo for diving at the end of this month (from SE Fla) so I appreciated your report.

As far as compacts I think it's a good setup, however after this trip I definitely notice more the limitations of the uwl-04 lens at the edges. When I dive solo I usually ask to follow the DM as opposed to finding or being forced to buddy up with other divers on the boat.

When I dive solo I usually ask to follow the DM as opposed to finding or being forced to buddy up with other divers on the boat. Good question that I left out details on: I was solo on this trip and am not self-reliant certified.

From discussions with others it sounds like if you are solo certified than you would be allowed to dive that way. On day 1 I tagged along as a third wheel with a husband and wife, and they didn't seem bothered by it nor was I. I was happy to follow them vs lead.

On day 2 a DM in training with CRD was on board that I buddies with, and he let me “lead” and he followed along. CRD operated very similar to my dive experiences in the FL panhandle, there is no guide unless a person(s) requests one and you are buddies up if you need one.

I've been spoiled for a few years with a long time Cozumel op who lets us do what we want, and shore diving trips to Bonfire, St Croix, etc. Given most dives in the keys are 35-50' I imagine we could easily push past 80 minutes if left on our own.

The Capt would give the site briefing and open the pool for “about an hour”. Most divers are ready and are in pretty quickly, if you want to maximize dive time definitely setup near the rear of the boat to be the first ones in.
